Best Bikini Colours for Your Skin Tone
Picking the right bikini colour is not just about what looks good on the hanger. The shade that makes one person glow can wash someone else out completely.
The difference usually comes down to your skin's undertone. Once you know yours, choosing the right bikini colour becomes straightforward.
Here is how to figure out your undertone and which bikini colours will look best on you.
How to Find Your Skin Undertone
Your undertone is different from how light or dark your skin is. Two people can have the same skin depth but completely different undertones. There are three categories: warm, cool, and neutral.
The Vein Test
Look at the veins on the inside of your wrist in natural daylight:
- Green veins = warm undertone
- Blue or purple veins = cool undertone
- A mix of both = neutral undertone
The Jewellery Test
Think about which metal looks better on you:
- Gold looks better = warm
- Silver looks better = cool
- Both look great = neutral
The White Paper Test
Hold a plain white piece of paper next to your face. Does your skin look:
- Yellowish or peachy = warm
- Pinkish or rosy = cool
- Neither, just your skin colour = neutral
Got your answer? Good. Here is what to wear.
Best Bikini Colours for Warm Undertones
Warm undertones have a golden, peachy, or olive base to their skin. You tan easily and look incredible in earthy, rich colours.
Your Best Colours
- Green. This is your power colour. Olive, emerald, and sage greens complement that golden warmth in your skin beautifully.
- Chocolate and brown. Rich, warm browns create a tonal look that is effortlessly flattering.
- Orange and coral. These pick up the warm tones in your skin and amplify them.
- Cream and off-white. Much more flattering on warm skin than stark white, which can look harsh.
From the Concha Shell collection, the Green, Chocolate, Orange, and Cream are all excellent picks for warm skin.
Colours to Be Careful With
Cool-toned pastels like icy blue or lavender can make warm skin look sallow. If you love blue, go for a teal or turquoise instead of a baby blue.
Best Bikini Colours for Cool Undertones
Cool undertones have a pink, red, or bluish base. You might burn before you tan, and silver jewellery is your go-to.
Your Best Colours
- Blue. From navy to cobalt, blue is the most universally flattering colour for cool skin tones.
- Pink. Soft pinks, hot pinks, and magentas all work. The pink picks up the natural rosiness in your skin.
- Cream and white. Crisp whites and soft creams look clean and fresh against cool skin.
- Yellow. This one surprises people. A bright, slightly cool-leaning yellow creates a striking contrast that works beautifully.
For cool undertones, the Blue Concha Shell is a standout. The Cream is another safe bet, and the Pink (launching April 7) was practically made for you.
Colours to Be Careful With
Very warm oranges and browns can clash with cool skin, making you look tired. If you love earthy tones, opt for a muted version rather than a saturated one.
Best Bikini Colours for Neutral Undertones
Neutral undertones are a mix of warm and cool. You are the lucky ones. Most colours work on you. But some still look better than others.
Your Best Colours
- Practically everything. Neutral skin can pull off both warm and cool shades without looking washed out or clashing.
- Chocolate and brown. These look sophisticated and grounded on neutral skin.
- Green. A true mid-green (not too yellow, not too blue) is one of the most universally flattering bikini colours, and it hits perfectly on neutral undertones.
- Cream. Always a winner. Warm enough to feel luxe, cool enough to stay fresh.
Colours to Be Careful With
Honestly, very few. The only thing neutral undertones should watch for is colours that are extremely muted or dusty, which can sometimes look flat rather than flattering. Go for saturated shades and you will be fine.
What About Skin Depth?
Undertone matters more than skin depth when choosing bikini colours, but depth plays a role too.
- Fair skin often looks best in mid-toned colours. Very dark or very bright shades can overwhelm, while very pale colours can blend in too much.
- Medium skin has the widest range. Most colours work. Lean into your undertone for the best results.
- Deep skin looks incredible in bold, saturated colours. Bright orange, rich green, and cobalt blue are all striking. Avoid anything too muted or ashy.
